With the Ashes season in full swing we're all looking for an Aussie win! Join in on the cricket fever at the Chamber's 'Business After 6' networking event with special guest Adam Gilchrist AM - former Vice Captain of the Australian Cricket team and Global Brand Ambassador for the University of Wollongong. 

 

Guests will hear from cricketing legend Adam on Australia's performance in the Ashes so far as well as a forward look at the future of cricket. 

 

As a passionate advocate for education away from the cricket pitch, Adam is the University of Wollongong's Global Brand Ambassador and was previously the Australian Government's Ambassador to India on Education. Adam will share his insights on the importance of sport in global diplomacy and encouraging children to get involved in all aspects of their schooling.

 

 

Come along to meet an Australian sporting great and enjoy some networking and friendly sporting banter.

Mr Adam Gilchrist AM, Australian Cricket Hall of Famer

 

Adam Gilchrist AM is one of the greatest wicketkeeper/batsmen of all time. Born in the coastal outskirts of New South Wales, ‘Gilly’ was passionate about the game since his childhood. 

Gilchrist has played in three World Cups for Australia and his 149 runs is the highest score in a World Cup final. He is also the only wicketkeeper to score 100 in a World Cup knock-out match. 

Gilchrist was inducted in the Sports Australia Hall of Fame in 2012 and in the ICC Hall of Fame in 2013. He was named Wisden Cricketer of the year in 2002 and won the Allan Border medal in 2003.

Gilchrist has been a Global Brand Ambassador for the University of Wollongong since 2008 and is committed to building stronger relationships with government, business leaders and alumni and boosting the University’s international profile. 

 

Professor Paul Wellings CBE, Vice-Chancellor, University of Wollongong


Professor Paul Wellings CBE joined the University of Wollongong as Vice-Chancellor in January 2012. Prior to his current role, Professor Wellings held the position of Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University from 2002-2011.

 

Educated at the Universities of London, Durham and East Anglia, Professor Wellings has held a range of senior positions in education, innovation and scientific research including Deputy Chief Executive at the CSIRO. Professor Wellings has also served on the board of Universities UK, the Australian Research Council Advisory Committee, the NSW Innovation and Productivity Council, the Global Foundation Advisory Council and the Bundanon Trust Board.

Professor Wellings was appointed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to higher education. He received an Honorary DSc from Lancaster University in 2014
